Spybot Instructions:

  1. Put the following address in the address bar of Internet Explorer and click go, or click on the link: http://www.download.com
  2. On the top left of the page under search fill in "Spybot" and make sure the next box says windows and click “go”
  3. Scroll down the page and look for "Search results matching: spybot" then look for "Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4" .
  4. Click on “download now” button on the right side.
  5. In the File Download box click on save.

  6. Navigate to your My Documents folder and create a folder titled Spybot which you open and click save.
  7. The program will now download.
  8. When it has finished downloading click the open button in the File Download box shown in #5 above.
  9. The program will now install on your computer in the regular manner as you click the right buttons.
    -> Next, next, next and finish Close Internet Explorer.

    Running Spybot

    Install will start:

  10. Chose “English” Click OK
  11. Choose ”Next, I accept the agreement ( put a dot in the radio button), click Next, Next,, uncheck the additional languages and skins check boxes and Next, Now uncheck “create quick launch icon” and make sure internet protection and system settings protection are checked and click “next” and in the next dialogue choose “install”.
  12. Choose “Finish”
  13. In the next several boxes you will configure the program. In the first box click on “create registry backup” and allow it time to do its thing. When finished click next and click on “Search for updates and if there are some click” install updates”
    After that has happened click on next and in the next box click on “Immunize the system” andit will tell you how many bad programs will be blocked from ever installing on your computer. Choose next and make your choices.
  14. Click on “Search and Destroy” icon on the left since you have just updated .. ordinarily you would update first. Click on “Scan for Problems” The program will now scan your computer. When it is complete look over the log file, examine it to make sure you want to be rid of each and select each you want to be rid of by putting a check in the box . You can find out about each item by highlighting the item and clicking on the arrow in the scroll bar. Click on “fix Selected problems” on the top of the list. In XP it will create a restore point in case you throw something away that is needed. Generally I fix them all.
  15. When it completes click OK and you are done.
  16. To exit the program click the close box.
  17. Next week start update the program and scan the computer again.
