Software Updates

Be sure to keep your software up-to-date.  Note:  A good suggestion is to Repair Permissions both before and after updating software.

About once a week, choose the Apple Menu (the Blue Apple in the

top left hand corner)              then  >  Software Update

The program will start to check for updates immediately.   If any are

available they will be listed.

Use the checkbox on the left of the items to select the ones you want to install.  Click install

Type an administrator name and password.   (The one set up when you first got your computer.)

When the updates are complete, Software Update checks a second time to see if there are any updates that could not be installed until a previous one was installed.

If you are connected to the internet all the time, you should set up your computer to check for updates automatically.

To do so   Choose              > System Preferences  >  Software Update

You will find it in the System section.

Put a check mark in the box beside Check for Updates. by clicking on it.  Set the choice to daily,  weekly,  or monthly.  I set mine up  to check weekly.   When you have done that, close the window.
