To take a picture of what you see on the desktop, press the shift, apple, and “3” keys at the same time. The picture will appear on your desktop as Picture 1, Picture 2, etc.
To take a picture of a portion of the desktop, press the shift, apple, and the “4” keys at the same time. Then drag the mouse, which is now a large plus over top of a circle over the area you want to take a picture of and let go.
Back up your files regularly by copying them onto a USB Flash Drive (memory stick), or other hard drive, or burning them to a CD. How often depends on how much you can risk loosing if your computer or hard drive quits. For a business daily is best. And don’t overwrite your last back up. Keep several copies, one off -site. For home use - weekly, or whenever you have added documents, photos etc that you don’t want to loose.
Some programs have provisions for doing backups. Address Book is one. To make a back up of your Address Book contacts, click file / back up Address Book .
If you have an important email you don’t want to lose, make a copy and put it in a folder inside your Document folder. In Mail, click file / save as then choose a folder to save it to.
Keep all your documents in the Documents folder, organizing them into sub-folders. This will make it easier to do back ups.
To make a folder inside the Documents folder,
Choose Finder / Documents / Action / New Folder

To forward multiple emails to another address, highlight them and click on Fwd. They will combine and go out together on the same email.
If you want a particular application to open a certain type of file every time, click on the file’s icon, then click apple (or command) and the letter i. This will open the "get info" window. Look for "open with" and change the application listed there. To change all future documents, select the "change all" feature.
To open a file that will not open automatically: Control click on the file’s icon to open a menu. Click on "open with" then click on a program listed.
